Attractions and Activities in Costa Maya
There are many cruise ships that visit Costa Maya. Here passengers can experience the stunning beaches. If you reach Costa Maya in the western Caribbean, you will notice the diversity in this port. While the place is full of things that remind you of the history of the place, you can also experience a great time under the sun and enjoy the sand, the sea, and your sip. You can simply relax at the Costa Maya Port. Salty water pools with swim-up bars, restaurants, shopping plaza, and artisan markets are around to give you a great time at the port. There are many places to go to at the port itself if you don’t want to go too far from your cruise ship. Even while just relaxing at the port, there are many activities to do like swimming in their saltwater pools and taking meals at their Mexican restaurants. Another place you can visit in Costa Maa is the Mahahual Fishing Village which is 30 minutes outside from the cruise port. This is a beautiful quaint fishing village with beautiful beaches and restaurants to eat at. Here you don’t pay to use the beach. Their beaches are of white sand and the water is shallow, warm and clear. What keeps the water relatively calm and safe to splash around even for kids is the reef systems that is out in the water. Volleyball, light snorkeling or simply splashing around are the activities that you can enjoy at the beach.
If you love historical adventures, then you should visit the Mayan Ruins in Chacchoben. The three popular sites you can explore here include Chacchoben, Kohunlich, and Dzibanche. Large pyramid structures are found here and one thing you can do is to climb the ruins and enjoy the general beauty of the region from up there.
The Spanish Fortress at Bacalar is another historical sight that you can tour. This is an hour and a half from the port which offers another historical journey of the ancient inhabitants of the region. The Spaniards used this fortress to protect them from the attacks of pirates and locals. If you tour the museum, and the fort you will have a beautiful view of the BAcalara lagoon from its rooftop.
